To be honest, the first part of his video wasn’t what I cared to share. He doesn’t reflect my views. But, as far as I know, it’s not possible to post only part of a video. 

The point is the disconnect between what the Qur’an actually says and the “interpretation” of the many scholars. This is something that I believe is true for virtually ALL religions. 

Do you deny that Muslim clerics have allowed and propagated the execution of gays, the subjugation and mutilation of women, and the violence towards ‘infidels?’ 

This is what I have a problem with. Not a religion. 

And this was my point in posting the video, and if you only watched the first half you are entirely missing it. 

If more Muslims actually read the Qur’an themselves, instead of basing their interpretations on what corrupt clerics want them to believe, then Islam wouldn’t be so negatively colored.

If the Qur’an is the direct and pure words of G-d, then human interpretation is completely unnecessary. Clerics shouldn’t have any power, as the words themselves should be clear enough. 

For example, in reference to the relationship between Jews and Muslims:

‘To the Jews their own expenses and to the Muslims theirs. They shall help one another in the event of any attack on the people covered by this document. There shall be sincere friendship, exchange of good counsel, fair conduct and no treachery between them.’ (Paragraph 37). 

This seems clear to me, so why do sermons and TV shows in Muslim countries call Jews the “descendants of apes and pigs” (Source: here) and why were there so many pogroms against Jews in Muslim countries in the early 1900’s? (Source: here)

Why has this potentially peaceful religion been overtaken by dictators and war mongers? Why are mortars being fired into Israeli towns to this day? 

What happened?
